Once I was super tired and then in the morning I didn’t have stopped my phone ringing the alarm clock for 15 minutes and then you will probably not believe me that sound never stopped it took me almost three weeks to completely stop hearing it as it faded away gradually for the first few days it was a real sound and then on the second week it was more like an illusion of that sound and in the last week was more like a souvenir (a constant one) of the sound... it has not happened never before and never after nothing similar to help you understand if I was in a super silent environment the sound was less audible and if I was in an environment with white noise like a fan or compressor it was more clear and I usually don’t smoke pot but I did the night before and it probably could have a link according to my doctor but it’s not clear why or how that would make something happen for almost 21 days and go through different phases as it faded into the void of existence

When I got my first smart phone a couple of years ago I felt a terrible change in the energy of my room. It was almost unbearable. Luckily I got used to it, but I'm a little concerned about the health effects. Tech companies really have to take responsibilty for the things they produce. Our bodies can only adjust so fast

Actually it's not rare that a phone does vibrate or ring and nothing shows up. I have a smart watch connected to mine and sometimes (i always have my phone on silent) the watch would vibrate and for a split second it would show "android system" as the notification. It would've most certainly vibrated my phone if it wasn't on silent but by the time u pulled it out of the pocket it would already be gone😇

For the distracted driving.... It's not that I think I'm a better multi-tasker. I simply don't do the distracting things when I'm in a situation that's risky (cars being near me, approaching turns, approaching signs, etc). I also only text a couple words at a time and when I'm on a call (hands free or not) it's the call that suffers, not the driving (the same way they say it does if the conversation is with a passenger, I either ignore the conversation or hold a long "uuhhhhhhhh" while I deal with the road). All of that being said, I rarely do any of this while driving. Maybe one in ten trips (if we include my work commute it's more like 1 in 50).

I only own a bicycle and I can tell you that the people on their phones are just as bad as the drunk drivers. I can also tell you, having previously driven a motorcycle that sat a bit higher than the typical car driver's seat, that I've seen all kinds of people scrolling through Facebook even when they're on the freeway. If you want to use your phone, take the bus. As far as the disruption to circadian rhythms are concerned, I have actually fallen asleep reading on a screen a number of times but I have had insomnia long before I had a screen to blame for it and it's only gotten worse with age. The funniest instance in which I fell asleep reading was when I was reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on the first iPad that I had, which was also the first iPad that my mom gave me when she got a newer one. The book was so interesting that I kept reading chapter after chapter and I only woke up again because my seriously heavy iPad 1 fell and hit me directly on the bridge of my glasses. lol I have read to make myself sleepy at night a lot of times and I think that the light emitted to read via electronic device ought to be properly compared to the light emitted to read via a conventional light when you're reading a paper book. Yes, paper books don't tend to hit you as hard in the face as some (particularly old) electronic devices, but they do seem to emit more light. The other thing that I think they need to study is how interesting the thing is that someone is looking at on their phone late at night because I think it might have more to do with how much someone wants to continue looking at something because it's interesting more than it has to do with the particular tone of light. While I prefer the newer settings that let one get rid of much of the blue light, I still stay up just as long or longer because of how interesting something is. I think this plays a bigger role in why people have made an association with screen use and insomnia. I got an iPad and a smart phone pretty late in the game and, while I had many screens available to me before them, I looked at those ones for longer into the night because they were like the difference between reading a novel in bed to reading a textbook in that they were easier to use later on in the night. The problem for me has always been my interest in the topic and I doubt that I've had more insomnia just because of the color of the light emitted (although I'd really like to see a study that compared incredibly boring things read on a screen to interesting things therein).

I have been looking up EMF and health related problems. Some countries have standards for electrical and magnetic fields, but not the US!! We KNOW it causes cancer, headache, bleeding, rashes, etc yet there is nothing we can do about it??? Our conveniences are killing us. Think about the animals out there who are also victims. 1. heinzerbrew
      14 ditë më parë

@Simple Things Yes, I do. And that story assumes that old guy knows what he is talking about and that he is correct. It also assumes he is impartial. In my opinion, flawed studies have no real value, but I do understand your point of view.

    2. Simple Things
      Simple Things
      14 ditë më parë

@heinzerbrew Two guys were once arguing about what type of wood made a longer lasting fence post. One said it was Cedar and the other said it was Post Oak. They decided to go see the old guy at the General Store who was over a hundred years old and new everything. When asked which lasted longer the old man replied "Cedar of course". The guy who was arguing for Post Oak didn't want to let it go so easily so he said "how much longer"? The old man replied "5 minutes". Do you get my point?

    3. heinzerbrew
      14 ditë më parë

@Simple Things The meaning is that, you should not stop worrying about an issue simply because a study has no clear answer. If you really didn't understand that, then there is no point in further discussion with you.

    4. Simple Things
      Simple Things
      14 ditë më parë

@heinzerbrew your comment is so broadly worded it is hard to get any meaning out of it. Right or wrong are not words that are, or can be, applied to studies. A study is not an event, it is a process. The process often has errors in it which are subject to peer review. That does not mean that the study was "wrong". Finding errors in other people's research is a recreational sport among academics.

    5. heinzerbrew
      15 ditë më parë

Incorrect. You are under the misunderstanding that people that do studies actually are good at it. As mentioned in the video, the studies done so far were garbage. Veritasim did a video a while back that showed that something like 50% of all published scientific papers were wrong.
