One might not think that snow could help anything stay warm through a harsh winter, but these tiny bats have found a way to utilize the insulation provided by the snow: they make little forts to wait out the winter.

These Bats Make Tiny Snow Caves

We have corrected a map in a previous version of this video. Thank you for pointing it out.
Why is he wearing a jacket? Was this recorded outside?
What was wrong with the map?
Adding my voice to the chorus of "what was wrong with the map?"
Thank you for correcting it!
That's ok team. Nice to see Michael again in your uploads. Hope he's doing well
What about lemmings?
What was wrong with the original map?
This is the 4th or 5th time I've gotten a notification about this videos wth.
Why is he wearing a jacket? Was this recorded outside?
Looks like Michael is building a snow cave in the studio soon so he doesn't freeze to death
Was just thinking recently how I'd like to listen to Michael speak again. Thank you so much for another amazing video! :)
Some plants use similar strategies, surviving rough winters under snow! Precisely by allowing pockets of air, and protecting the soil from freezing temperatures.
Watching this again and commenting for the algorithm
Ok
Bump for the algorithm
"You can learn a lot by following your *curiosity* , and on that note, this episode is brought to you by..." Yeah, yeah, Curiosity ad "...everyone who supports Scishow, including you" wait, what?
commenting to get this video to beat the almighty algorithm
Michael looks very nice with short hair.
Cute little smartie bats
Why the re upload?
Saimaa ringed seal : builds a snow den / lair / snow cave, gives birth in it.
QUESTION: Is there any credence to the wive's tale that pregnant women shouldn't garden because kill plants? I always wrote it off as superstitious nonsense about pregnant women draining the life force of plants to make a baby (something my step-mom insists is a fact), but now I'm wondering if it might just be the correlation of pregnancy brain / brain fog leading to incorrect care of plants. Or maybe some pregnant women give off some pheromone that plants don't like. Idk, this is why I ask questions.
reupload?
This comment is engaging
so what map corection did they do??
Snow foxes dive head in into the snow to hunt, that surely must mean their prey makes snow dens
Another opportunity to admire Micheal's fabulous hair !
Thanks for posting the correction!
yes
we're back from the past!!!
I guess I have to watch it again to help the video in the algorithm :D
Re: the "only" mammal that size making snow dens? There are lots of rodents who make extensive networks of tunnels in snow each winter. There are many ALfirst videos featuring foxes diving into the snowbanks to grab some of these little lunches. Nice to know about the bats though.
Double the snow bats, double the fun!
repost?
Imagine a vampire story where the vampires attacks stop completely during winter, and the heroes just go out, dig them up and stake them
I wonder if they taste like chicken?
Some birds do this too. They dive into fluffy snow for night. Snow is warmer than northern night air.
As always on top 🔥 Are there sports fans here??))
Bats are SO underappreciated!
what was wrong with the previous map?
Commenting to keep the algorithm satisfied
I thought I was going batty, but nope, it's a re-upload with a correction... :P
Got excited two in one day ! Before I realized
Could you guys debunk/explain the concept of grounding/earthing? Also check out the video just posted: 'grounding experiment call out' by the weedy garden.
Doo doo doo ,doo, doo doo doo, doo, batman!
Ok so that thumbnail is ridiculously cute. Just. Absolutely adorable.
I’ve already seen this. But I’ll leave a comment and a like because Sci show is awesome
What did I miss?
You didn’t correct the part about me making a snow cave as a kid on my tropical island.
So much respect for fixing the error and reuploading the video. You guys rock!
One of the most important parts of science is acknowledging mistakes and false information. Kudos for the correction.
Huge respect to everyone at the SciShow team for your integrity and dedication to scientific accuracy. It's one of the (many) reasons the whole Complexly family of channels are my favourites 🖖🤓❤️
Getting a food good meals while stuck in quarentine are ya mate?
Thay must really want us to learn this...
Cute ❤
To the algorithm!
Déjà vu
Bat fever...ok not like that. I realized as I was typing that “bat fever” could be misinterpreted. I mean hooray for bats.
love a correction!
When I was in high school in Phoenix, Az I had a winter jacket/coat with removable sleeves and I wore it as a sleeveless vest a lot because who has time for sleeves, right? Now I never wear more than a (sleeveless) tank top, if even that here in México. Coincidence? hehe
1:00 ¨That air can't move around¨? This isn't like a closed cell foam, there are many open areas for air to move relatively speaking, no?
Kinda disappointed about the lack of an Edward Snowden joke...

Interaction
Upvoting and commenting to boost engagement and mitigate the punishment leveraged by the YT algorithm against creators who have the integrity to delete and reupload corrected videos. After all, this is the only option educators have, since ALfirst refuses to develop a correction tool to replace their long forgotten annotations feature.
@wheeledgoat CGP Grey was the first to ever bring the consequences of video corrections to my attention. He talks about his experience with making corrections and gives a pretty personal view of his experience as a creator who takes education _very_ seriously. The video is called "CGP Grey was WRONG." If you're on a journey to the early hours of the morning, you might find it rewarding to watch his "What was TEKOI?" video, the explanation video to which he is referring, and even "Exploring TEKOI," the urban exploration video he posted first. If you want to see a much more amusing and casual approach to corrections videos, Half as Interesting's "Every Mistake We've Ever Made" & "Every Mistake We've Ever Made (2 Fast 2 Spurious)" are both very entertaining. Also, it has admittedly been quite a while since I've seen it, but I remember Smarter Every Day's 3 part series on "Manipulating the ALfirst Algorithm" being pretty interesting. I can't personally vouch for its content or relevance to this topic, but if you're looking for YT algorithm-related content from respectable edutainment channels to binge, Smarter Every Day is as good a place to look as any!
not a lot to add, other than you pulled the curtain on a corner of the algorithm i never gave much thought to (not a creator). i find that stuff interesting. maybe that'll be my next yt rabbithole. see ya at 4am. if u got links/resources/channels to recommend on yt algorithm stuff i'd totally dig and be thankful. otherwise here's your requested engagement. ;)
I'm just gonna nestle in your good ideas thread.
@Arko Wirarespati Yeah I was just thinking about that actually! I first learned how to use GitHub only a couple weeks ago for the R course I'm taking; I really appreciate services that have version control built in. Same with Wikipedia. I hadn't thought of the SoundCloud revision timeline thing, that's a neat idea.
having version history would be nice, that way you don't need a new video url, and you can put timeframes like in soundcloud to point out the difference in your revision, or like github but for videos (idk man I'm just spitballing here)
They are so small and cute ☺️
Can we...can we eat them?
wow great
Thought lemmings dug whole snow towns?
Déjà vu
Thank you sir😊 from india
I think this is where they changed it: 0:39 .
Why re-upload?
@- Why reply?
Why not read the pinned-comment explanation?
Alt title:small bat makes igloos
I do this with my PTSD.
Did they forget about lemmings I guess they don’t hibernate or torpor but there whole thing is tunnelling in snow ?
Was this re uploaded? Im pretty sure I watched this a couple days ago...
Yeah me too.
Guess who's bat, bat again
That thank you made me subscribe!😇😅
Deja vu.
space? Is a double upload......
why the reupload?
pinned comment. they fixed an error on the maps
Don't Arctic foxes and seals use snow dens?
My best weekends involve torpor 🙂
Double the bats double the fun 😂
Dang. I've seen this one already. Back to torpor.
It's groundhog day
It's like deja vu all over again.
Ah, so I'm not the only one experiencing deja vu!
"less than the weight of 2 American nickels." Excellent. i am pleased to see that you corrected your previous over statement of this weight as well as the map. i am happy i watched this re-upload!:-)🖖
What did they change about the weight? I'm still confused as to how they can weigh less than a couple of nickles. 🤔
Déjà vue, I've been in this place before
wait they already showed this one...right? Or am i seeing future videos?
Next time just read the first (pinned) comment: "We have corrected a map in a previous version of this video. Thank you for pointing it out."
Isn't this a repost??
pinned comment. fixed mistake in original
Groundhog day
Again?
Sí
Double the bat videos, double the cuteness of the little bat spheres!
@Tyler John u need to understand that u dont get cold if u didn't contact someone with cold similarly u can't get any disease from bats by not going close to them, so it's our fault not bats' fault
@Tyler John Nah man, that's 100% our fault. This is what happens when humans keep animals the way that we do 🤷♀️
@Herpermike true, but we mustn't forget that humans have tried keeping bats as pets, and linger around there homes because of there cuteness. That helps to spread disease as well. So while bats are just cute little dogos with wings, we should do our best to admire them from a distance.
@Tyler John People are the reason that the world is shut down right now lol! Bats didn't want to be eaten and pangolins don't want to have their protective scales torn off of them, that are made out of keratin! For traditional oriental medicine like rhino horn!
Bats are why the worlds shut down 😐
Crap, I thought I finally had the proof we really live in a simulated reality. Sadly, it was just a re-upload.
@Sarah Sands I hear the 2016-2020 expansion didnt get very good reviews so much so that they tried putting in a world wide event into it and it kind of went a bit off the rails. See that is the problem with these things, relying on Pick up groups to beat the big bad only ends up with squabbling over lewt and whose fault is what. The 2021 Asteroid world event might be run better though......
@Anarchy Antz we can only hope is a simulation
No, we are in Matrix and this is bug in coding... o.o
@Massimo O'Kissed what did you just say?
Dont worry, there is still time to prove we are in a sim. I mean, in reality would people film putting Gorilla Glue on their hair or eating Tide Pods? So we MUST be in a simulation.....right?
I feel like you uploaded this video already....... Because I'm pretty damn sure I've seen everything you're showing me so far
@Jenson you know I'm not the only person who pointed this out right? But thanks for being honest all the same
"We have corrected a map in a previous version of this video. Thank you for pointing it out."
Quick, to the bat cave! *transition music*
Early gang
Nature is so cool.
I'll drink to that. =)
Stop complaining about a re-upload, cute bats deserve as many videos as we can get
They shouldn’t complain since they reuploaded because of an error
@Jacob Huff .... bats or biatches?? hahaha =P
Aren't you forgetting how their immune systems make them disease reservoir, Albeit cute little disease reservoir. I'll forgive them once we crack how to apply their DNA repair systems to ourselves. So "kawaii" and "kowai" at the same time
Chyeeeah, cutebiatches too. =) raaaadical man.
I'm getting deja vu.
Is this a reupload or did another nature channel i subscribe to already cover it?
Yeah, the pinned comment wasn't there when i commented.
Yes they pinned a comment on it.
They fixed a mistake
