🌎 1/1/5000: EVERY major city is EMPTY. BILLIONS STARVED as the humans were distracted by their own petty infighting, delusional beliefs, and vices. ALL coastal & low-lying places (Miami, Venice, London, NYC, etc.) are FLOODED. The ocean acidified, leaving vast areas unoccupied. Most land animals are GONE. The handful of feral, subhumans left have at most a few centuries to exist in such dire conditions. Gaia has another 5000 YEARS of CATASTROPHE in store... Tick, tock goes the DOOM ⏰ #climatecrisis #hurryupwiththevaccineandDOsomethingaboutitNOW #YOUarewitnessingtheENDofEVERYTHINGbecauseofanobsessionwithNOTHINGakamoney

    1. Dragrath1
      Dragrath1
      10 ditë më parë

Well it basically is the East Pacific Rise struggling to keep spreading despite North America pressing down on it. Rift valleys once well established naturally tend to be quite deep like Lake Baikal as that is how you get a new ocean. Though here its more a tug of war between North America and the Pacific Ocean resulting in land getting ripped off Mexico and dragged up North to the Aleutian trench where it can reaccrete onto the continent as part of what we call either Canada or Alaska

  62. Jonathan Williams
    Jonathan Williams
    10 ditë më parë

If Baja California is still in the process of separating from the rest of Mexico does that mean that California will separate from the mainland US?

    1. Dragrath1
      Dragrath1
      10 ditë më parë

Yes though from what I have been able to learn about the geology of the region the process is a bit more complicated as the changes ongoing are more of a consequence of North America's ongoing plate motion continuing to push the continent over the East Pacific Rise which is the seafloor spreading ocean ridge of the Pacific ocean. The differences in North America passing over the seafloor spreading region has resulted in parts of North America getting sheered off the continent due to the stresses and then dragged north with the plate motion of the pacific plate. The counterpart Plate is no longer a single plate having been broken into pieces thanks to the interaction with North America's southwest motion and South America's motion towards the west. The difference in angle and the divergent plate boundary means the land is being pushed out away from the spreading ridge but North America is pressing down against it which drives the sharp transition from ocean spreading ridge to the famous transform fault known as the San Andreas. It is important to note that this is only the most recent in a long succession of chunks of Mexico that have been ripped off North America only to be reaccreted to the North where the Pacific begins to Subduct beneath North America along the Aleutian trench. Both British Columbia and Alaska resulted from this ongoing process. Most of the geological transformations within North America since the break up of Pangaea particularly the closure of the interior seaway and the ongoing uplift of the continent are driven by this process. It is a quite complicated geological mess that has acted as a roadblock preventing North America from making any progress moving west thus allowing South America to slowly catch up.

chemosynthesis isn't just one pathway but a diverse assortment of biochemical pathways many of which microbes switch between as needed so it might be hard to do that. While these ecosystems are alien and extreme to us they are exactly the sort of environments where LUCA (the Last Universal Common Ancestor) probably lived based on the conserved genes across all domains of life. As such there are multitudes of chemosynthetic pathways which life utilizes with new ones still being discovered all the time. That said the dominant carbon fixation pathway among chemotrophs is the ancient Wood-Ljungdahl pathway Here if it allows it is a link to a paper discussing this pathway and its use and loss within the Archaea www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4943185/

Oh wow... That is wicked cool. I've seen the underwater brine lakes that are in the Gulf of Mexico and they're really neat, but the upside down mirror pools are on a whole nother level. The entire area and the formations are really beautiful to look at, especially with all the colors.

Please explain how refraction / reflection causes a change in colour of the light (dependant on frequency - E=hf). I had the understanding that red/blue shifts were only Doppler situations which require moving reflectors.

Probably not, they are too deep, the fresh water could not have reached them anyway, and they have plenty of nutrients coming from underground to sustain them.

I thought that the speed of light is a constant, and the appearance of it taking longer to traverse through a medium is not because the speed of any photon is slowed, but the photons are bounced around within that medium, taking longer to get through it while not being slowrr

No. The electrons in the atoms of the medium move in response to the electric field from the light, which creates an additional electric field. The combined wave moves slower. Dr. Lincoln at Fermilab has two good videos explaining it. alfirst.info/load/d4qhpGqbialkmmw/video alfirst.info/load/goGkoIWyZtiYi58/video

Sounds like the same difference. You just explained why it takes longer is all. Dude can't do that when he's got so much to present as simple enough to understand generally by most peeps. Would muddle things up a lil, but thanks for the info.

@Anne-droid I remember when I was in school they told me the only reason a plane be "lighter than air" is due to the shape of the wing making it move faster over the top or w/e.... guess no one taught them about super-sonic flight despite our country having developed the avero arrow that we then threw into lake ontario because the cold war and people are stupid AF.... and it's basically yet to be bested... so GJ school.

@king james488 Here's a story about that sort of thinking that you will probably enjoy: My father was a geologist who went to college on the GI Bill right after WWII. One of his textbooks at that time had a single page on plate tectonics. His professor--one of the "grand old men" of the generation which routinely said things like, "Silence! Your Father Has Spoken!"--taught it with his eyebrows lifted nearly to his receding hairline. Imagine, drifting continents! They all had a good laugh about it and thus graduated...and immediately started pursuing the topic for themselves. Within 15 years, it was both literally and figuratively the driving force in geology. My father always used this story to point out that because scientific thought changes with new information, a scientist's most useful tool is an open mind. And I am happy to report that all the scientists I know wholeheartedly agree.

@Anne-droid then as any sort of scientist you must agree anything you say or thing is only "right" until someone else comes up with a better idea... and I'm sure you know anything takes like 20-50 years to hit the consumer market at least.... so ya, back in the 80s and 90s they were heavily pushing disinfectants... idk what you as a supposed scientist were up to... probably studying things hippies had been telling you for decades... but eventually the men in lab coats "discovered" things people have known for centuries about fermentation and now we're in this "microbiotic culture" or a society... I've rambled enough... is you wish to engage with me more feel free to reply.

@Anne-droid i mean of course a microbiologist would feel that way lol i think they just mean more broadly the focus used to be more on what humans could do whereas now it's more about what we can make things like microbes and nanobots do for us

How is it mars has so much iron on the surface. You'd think litter elements like calcium or even silicon would be on surface in fact spirit found silicon under the iron surface. Maybe life plants even animals concentrated iron . used for anti freeze and all Martian died that binomial. Was left the surface and sun broke that other biol molecules into basis elements. Like finding so much calcium on earth surface.. Its fundamental to our bones to skin. . and thinking of a slit breeze scraping off an inch of sediments a year or sun shine moving electrons atom entire molecules in the soil and sediments I find it hard to believe all sea&river beds and gullies and sediments are over1 billion years old
